Work Session November 20th

I went to my first town council work session this week. I have to say it was kind of fun to sit around and talk about issues that are happening in the town.  I feel so grateful to have a small hand in future decisions that affect us.  And I can tell you that there are so many opportunities in this town and I am excited.

Most meetings in town hall are open to the public.  I am going to push to get some sort of marquee out front so that we can advertise when upcoming meetings are so that we can a better public turnout.  I think most people aren't aware that they can attend meetings like the work session.... I didn't.  Until we can get a sign out front or something I will be advertising when the meetings are on this blog.  I am also going to push to get the meetings videotaped and posted to YouTube or something similar.

We talked about a lot of things during the work session.  I was happy to see some interest in future parks and recreation development and activities, including a Thatcher pool.   That is one area that I will continue to push.  Also our police chief has some good community policing programs in the works and I am excited about that.

The two new members of the council, Aaron Allen and myself, will be sworn in at the December Town Council meeting.  I will post more information about that when I have it.  There is also a planning and zoning meeting coming up in December. I will post about that later.

Overall the council seems to be responsive to having 2 new members, one of them being a female.  I will continue to be an independent and fair voice.  I will not stand for favoritism or perceptions of favoritism. These issues will be addressed in this blog.  But in the meantime, I am optimistic and excited to be a voice for everyone in town. You can send me a message through this blog or email me at jmartin@thatcher.az.us.  I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!
